Grandparents redux

We are starting week three of life with Savannah today. The past week has been a busy one with many doctor's visits, family visits, friends stopping by, and running what used to be simple errands.

This past week Savannah had the chance to meet Grandma and Grandpa Stephens. Clearly the were anxious to see their first grandchild after traveling all the way from Indiana (by way of Pennsylvania) and braving the best rain storm we've seen in Richmond all year. After finally making it in from the rain the waiting grandparents had to wait some more. As we've mentioned, Savannah likes to eat often. Finally though Savannah made her entrance and Grandpa was the first to hold her. Savannah started crying and Grandpa generously passed her over to Grandma.

Apparently Grandma's experience has provided her the magic touch and was quite helpful in letting Sue get a little extra sleep the first night they were in town. I'm not exactly sure how it works but several times when Savannah would be crying Grandma would take her, put her on her shoulder, and slowly get her to quiet down. Not that Savannah cries an incredible amount but I believe Grandma enjoyed showing off her skills nonetheless.
Both grandparents were able to have ample time with Savannah though I'm sure they wouldn't have turned down more time. Unfortunately only one person really has want the little girl wants right now so Mom is obviously called on the most. In the picture below Grandpa and Savannah are enjoying the wonderful rocking chair that was a given to her during their time here.
We haven't quite figured out who Savannah looks like but we think Grandma may be the front runner (with slightly different hair coloring).
Also stopping by during Savannah's busy weekend were her Aunt Jayne (Sue's sister) and Uncle Jason. They stopped by twice while traveling between North Carolina and D.C. A few months back Jayne mentioned that now the pressure is off of her (in the grandkids department) but its probably safe to say that the heat has simply been turned up. From the look of things I think they'll be just fine.

After our two week check up with Dr. Gulati we also crossed the street to Sue's office and surprised her co-workers (all of her "aunts" as they say) with a quick visit. Sue's supervisor, "Aunt Sheila", was quite excited and she also admitted to praying hard that Sue will return to work.

We also waiting for Savannah to return to her birthweight so we could compare her before and after pictures.

And finally after all the long hours throughout the week all the ladies of the house are finding time to rest.

Congratulations, Sue! We're so excited for you and hope to meet little Savannah sometime. Love the middle name "Grace" by the way - that's Leah's middle name too!
