It has been a while since a real update and since it is Christmas we thought what a good time! (We are also currently in Indiana visiting Tom’s family so we can use his parent’s internet!!) So let’s see what have we been up to?
Some good times at the park up the street from us in the warm weather! Gotta love December in Savannah!
Well for Thanksgiving we were supposed to go to Sue’s family in NC and be there to celebrate our nephew’s baptism BUT… the day we were supposed to go we took Savannah to the doctor because she had been slightly sick. Well, she had strep throat, an ear infection and RSV. For those of you who don’t have small children, RSV can be really bad in infants it is actually the number 1 reason for ER visits with infants. For adults it is just a cold but it can cause pretty serious breathing problems for little ones! So, we thought it would not be good for our nephew Harrison to get sick since he was only 2 ½ months old at the time. Savannah was fine she had a fever and just felt pretty crummy for about a week total and then was fine. She is very resilient. This was really the first time she has been sick at all other than one small cold and a weird period of a few days with a high fever and no other symptoms. So our Thanksgiving was spent eating pizza and hot wings. We did make a turkey the previous week and some good sweet potatoes so we were kinda tired of Thanksgiving food. A few couples in our church did say we should have called them and we could have come over but we didn’t want to expose anyone else to the sickness.
At the beginning of December, we went to Sue’s grandparents in SC, her grandfather has pretty serious lymphoma and is getting worse so we wanted to see them and enjoy some time with Big Daddy. He really is an amazing man and his life has really been about his love for his Father, his wife and his family. My grandparents have been married for over 61 years, what a love story! We look forward to getting up there again soon.
The past few weeks we have just been enjoying the weather, (it has been in the 70’s and sunny while the rest of the country seemed to have wild crazy cold weather). Here are a few pictures of cute Savannah just playing around the house and enjoying life!

Here we are enjoying some cantaloupe and milk for breakfast. Personally I am not a fan of mixing the two flavors but she loves it!

We were down on the riverfront recently and we toured a beautiful ship that was open to the public. I think Savannah is ready to set sail.
We have tried multiple times to get a good picture of her in front of our little Christmas tree but it is not successful! Here are a few pictures of her opening great presents from Sue’s family that they sent us. We opened them early because we are driving to Indiana for Christmas and thought packing all of them would be a bad idea. She loves Christmas this year (very different from last year when she didn’t quite get it at 4 ½ months). She has been trying to open the presents under the tree for a while. She really felt the love with books, toys, Christmas ornaments and a great name plate for her room! Thank you to everyone who thought of her to send her something special, we really appreciate it!
We have been trying to prepare for Christmas in different than our normal ways. The pastor of our Church had a good sermon during our Christmas service on the 21st really stressing the importance of how Jesus’ birth points directly to his death. You can’t have Christmas without Easter and the cross. He also really helped us understand the truth of scriptures and a true historical look at Jesus’ birth and the visit of the Maji. It really is amazing how often we hear the story of Jesus’ birth, read the passages and focus on it for our Christmas service and then move on to the commercial Christmas. He really challenged us to live our lives truly as if each day we are realizing the sacrifice that Christ made for us EACH DAY! That is challenging because this world has such a grip on us and it is hard to get away from the commercial nature of our culture. This grip really is satan’s way of pulling us away from Christ. Our prayer this Christmas is that we would all realize how precious Christ’s birth was because as Shane Barnard’s new Christmas song says “He was born to die”. On the day he was born, God saw the crucifixion and our sinful nature and need for a Savior. What a glorious day it was!
