HHI on MLK

We don't often make a lot of family trips outside of Savannah, because there is so much to do here and kids don't always travel well, but we headed to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina this weekend. We took advantage of the time off from work for MLK Day and the wonderful January weather to check out the island and the beaches. Originally, we were heading to Hilton Head to get Savannah's haircut from our friend Jesse. His appointments ended up being all booked, which was just as well, because as you'll see her hair was soon covered in salt water and sand.

When we got to the beach we realized that we didn't have an umbrella for Isaiah - it blew away at Tybee Island last year. So we got a little crafty and fashioned a canopy for him from the Maya wrap. Dixie absolutely loved helping out since she's not allowed on the beach in Georgia.

Dixie digs a whole while Savannah gathers sticks on the beach.

Isaiah kicked off his socks and was ready to play with Sue.

Isaiah seemed to really enjoy his sun shade

Isaiah really appreciated the time to relax with his toes.

Life on the beach in January offers quite a peaceful view.

Checking out the waves

While Sue and Isaiah relaxed further up the beach Savannah, Tom and Dixie went exploring and found pools of cool water to play in. We all dipped our toes in, even Dixie, but found the Atlantic Ocean in January to be pretty cold.

Savannah loved splashing around, and even though Dixie has always hated water she was enjoying herself too. Savannah made sure to not get down "in" the water. She did however get really close to the water so she could soak her head.

We had a great afternoon at Dreissen Beach on Hilton Head. We spent a little time walking around some of the shops (where Dixie did get a new bone). Everyone was tired by the end of the day and Savannah, Isaiah, and Dixie all passed out in the car on the way home. All in all it was a beautiful day.
