Summer weekends

So now that summer is officially here its great that summer festivities are here as well. We had a beautiful weekend of just enough heat and just enough clouds. Saturday morning we got up and went for a walk through the nearby park with another couple from church who should be having a baby this week. Along the way we met another couple they are friends with who are also having a baby in August. If only we had a picture of the three pregnant ladies walking down the sidewalk together.

Here is a pieced together photo of Swan Lake in Byrd Park. Just a block and a half from our house (and we're only 5 minutes from downtown).

Saturday evening we returned to the park to play cards and enjoy God's air conditioning. If you see the theme of the weekend you can imagine what we did on Sunday morning. Again, we woke up and headed for the lakes in Byrd Park. While Dixie was disappointed we didn't chase squirrels I think she still enjoyed it as well. We spent some time reading Psalms and relaxing before heading home. After church we then headed to Goochland County for a church picnic at a couples farm about 30 minutes from the city. All the small groups from our church got together and enjoyed the food and fellowship.

Tom's favorite part of the picnic (and any other meal) was the homemade ice cream.

People enjoyed talking to the horse and donkey, neither of which talked back.

Staring contest with a horse.

And plenty of leftovers to take home.

So while the summer in Richmond is definitely going to be hot and humid we'll be sure to find plenty of ways to cope. That's what makes the summer so great.
