Homeschool

Well, we finally started school last week. After our exciting camping trip we waited until a full solid week to start. Let's just say the first week had lots of highs and lows. As you know Savannah has not been to daycare or school at all before so she was reallly excited to start school at home. She kept talking about "real school" and we had to have a discussion that we were doing "real school". The first two days were great. The next three were well lets just say not so great. Lots of fits and frustration on both of our parts. She kept saying she just wanted to play. Let me first say that our school consists of maily using Sonlight curriculum with some other activities thrown in each day. She has 6 work boxes which consist of things such as Bible time, read a loud time (we just finished Little House on the Prairie- several chapters of which Savannah read to me!), some history/geography, baking muffins, going to the park, etc. She just wasn't too excited about the structure meaning she couldn't get up and play what she wanted first thing in the morning. As a good friend pointed out she is new to this and so am I.

Isaiah is doing some fun preschool activities and really enjoys it. He also likes to listen to all of our reading and to Savannah reading to him.

All week I just kept thinking, well we must be in the will of God. When we are in God's will the attacks from the enemy step up to tear us down and destroy what the Lord has in store. After all....For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.  Ephesians 6:12.  Our Pastor is currently teaching our of Nehemiah and he mentioned this idea during his sermon this week..... yet another confirmation for me.

I therefore know that hard times in homeschool help confirm to me that the Lord desires for us to pour into our children here at home and teach them the Word of God as we freely choose. Those are after all our main purposes to homeschool. I know parenting is HARD. I know homeschooling is HARD. I do not wish the easy route in parenting, for our children's hearts are of utmost importance to the Lord and He will fight for them. If I truly understand grace in my life and my sinful nature and need for a Savior, then I need to be looking to the Father and praying and seeking His face to fight for my kids hearts as well. They might be frustrating at times but they mean the world to us and even more to the Father. Now if only I could remind myself of this over and over each day as I deal with the little frustrations....... I guess that is why we are commanded to hide God's Word in our hearts so we have it to trust in and pray through no matter what we aer doing.

Here are their first day of school pictures...

Not sure how a blue firefighter is different from a regular firefighter but that is what he said he wanted to be!

Ellie also LOVES book and just wants to eat everything. Let's just say the books don't hold up too well to her chomps! We also started our soccer team so I will try to do a post about that soon. It is great and the kids love it! Yeah for Coach daddy!
