While we were in North Carolina I noticed that the main street and sidewalks in downtown Kernersville had a very similar width to the streets and sidewalks along Waters Avenue - the main corridor two blocks from our house in Savannah. You may ask, 'Why is this important'? Well, because Main Street in Kernersville has been completely redone in recent years, while Waters Avenue is a typical, inner city commercial corridor with lots of empty storefronts, broken up sidewalks, and so-so corner stores. The hope is that the corridor's redevelopment becomes an important project for me at work. So like a geek I picked up a notepad and pen and planned to head out by myself...to measure sidewalks...in the cold....while on vacation. For some reason a certain spouse rejected the invitation to come along.
However, one very dapper, bright, and lovable young man decided he would like to come along. It warms my heart that Isaiah has a little urban planner geek in him. He was a very serious about his role with the tape measure, though I'm not sure what he was actually measuring most of the time.
We also checked out Main Street Baptist Church - where Sue and I were married.
