MLK Day at the lake

Our kids absolutely love a parade and in Savannah there is no shortage of parades throughout the year.  So on Monday we headed for our now usual spot on Broughton Street to watch the MLK Day Parade.  This year we ran into our good friend Billy from church so he and his brother Johnny watched the parade with us.

Isaiah waved at everyone

Especially the firefighters

Ellie was just happy to be outside

Notice the flag the man at the front is waving

Now notice the flag that Isaiah is waving. 'Thank you' and 'thank you' to the anonymous veteran.

The Savannah MLK parade is supposed to be one of the longest in the country.  We cannot confirm that since we haven't made it longer than two and a half hours at the parade before the kids get tired.

Clown noses for everyone! (The circus is in town too).

After the parade we headed home to pack a picnic lunch at head to Skidaway State Park.  On the way to the park we hit a serious traffic back up. Since a causeway is no place to get stuck in traffic we turned around and headed for Lake Mayer in town. It was a breezy but beautiful day. After a picnic and some soccer we got ready for a walk around the lake.  While waiting for Ellie to eat (she napped during the picnic) Savannah and Isaiah walked off to sit by the lake and wait for the rest of us.  I love this pictures I was able to get of them by sneaking up on them.  It was so neat to see them just sitting together by the lake and sweetly talking to one another.  These are the pictures we will pull out during less friendly sibling moments to remind ourselves of their great potential to love one another well.

Savannah and Isaiah wanted to run around the lake (about 1.5 miles) so we spent a large chunk of time jogging, then resting, then sprinting, then sitting in trees, then looking for alligators in the canal, then racing to the next "fitness station" by the lake, then looking for a tree to go potty, then eventually making it back to the restrooms and the van.  Some days as a parent it really is nice to not have a schedule because the kids certainly do not have one.

Savannah took the remaining pictures in today's post.  Recently she has been working on art to hang in my office at work. I always enjoy the titles of her work, such as, 'Spotlight Elephant' and 'Pickle Mess'.

'Isaiah looking at a tree'

'Daddy looking at Savannah'

'Seagulls looking at us from the lake'
'The Sky'

'My water bottle'
