Louisville Zoo!

So it warmed up into the 50's this week (woohoo) so we decided to get out and enjoy it while we could. Saturday morning we watched a little Louisville basketball (great defense, lousy shooting) while waiting for the sun to come out and warm everything up.  When we did head out Savannah and Isaiah picked up a Louisville basketball and football.  Savannah has been practicing her dribbling in the drive while Isaiah spent a couple hours outside playing football by himself, and against himself.

Once we got to the zoo Saturday afternoon we noticed lots of people were taking advantage of the warmer, sunnier day.  The great thing about the gift of a zoo membership (Thank You!) is that we don't have to rush through each exhibit or spend the whole day there and tire the kids out to get our money's worth.  We really get to take the time and just watch the animals.

Since it was "cold" the kids mainly wanted to get to the Arctic exhibit so they could see the polar bears.  The polar bear was putting on a show scratching its back while standing up tall so everyone enjoyed that.  Personally, I (Tom) was hoping to see the polar bear jump from its enclosure into the sea lions pool but it didn't happen.  Good thing we're members and can go back again! Here's hoping...

There was also two very large grizzly bears.  We found a great corner where you could squeeze in and watch up close.  Yes there is glass but Savannah still decided nose to nose with a grizzly was too close for her.

Isaiah and Ellie sweetly watched the tiger sleep for a while, until Ellie decided to try and wake up the tiger by yelling, "TIGER!", at it. Apparently that doesn't work.

There weren't many animals out in the African exhibit but we did catch the elephants - and their tricks - before they went in for the night.

Before we left for the day we took a spin on the Conservation Carousal, free for members!

Caroline spent all her time at the zoo curled up but she clearly enjoyed herself as well.  Here's to many more great trips to the Louisville Zoo.
