Savannah Living

Over the last few years we have moved multiple times and have becomes somewhat adept at finding a place to live on short notice and making the move fairly smoothly. While that doesn’t mean that we love the packing and moving process we at least know what we’re doing.

I headed south on I-95 one morning last week and as I hit Petersburg I heard a bluegrass song on the radio sing “I’m bound for Carolina, she’s in Richmond with my heart.” What a way to start off the week. Anyway, I spent several days last week driving all over the City of Savannah calling phone numbers, looking at houses and apartments, and waiting for my official start date to come through. I arrived in Savannah really anticipating that I would hit a home run on the first place I saw it soon became clear that was not going to be the case. The first day was much less productive than I had hoped but it really picked up the second afternoon and the last morning.

This photo is not one of our housing choices by the way. I did however enjoy camping out on Tybee Island for a couple nights while in Savannah.

Eating your breakfast while watching the morning tide roll out is never a bad start to a day. After breakfast and combing the classifieds again I headed out to see some more places. There was a whole range of places that I looked at. We knew that we definitely wanted to be in the city. Walking distance to a park and grocery would have been ideal, plus a third bedroom or play room would be nice but we couldn't find much that was desirable and/or affordable with those characteristics. Below are a few of the places I looked at to give you an idea of how different they could be.

Eventually I settled on a place just east of downtown Savannah, which means it is just west of Tybee Island. It is a small, renovated 2 bedroom with plenty of storage space, a screened rear patio and a nice yard which will be essential as Savannah Grace is getting very mobile and active.
