Sunday has become a regular day at the park. This past Sunday we explored Forsyth Park the day after the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Sidewalk Art Festival. Unfortunately it rained during the event Saturday but you could still see many of the hundreds of chalk drawings. We have also enjoyed Daffin Park where we had a nice evening picnic after work on Monday.
Savannah Grace continues to amaze as she learns new things every day it seems, or at least improves on newly acquired skills. She is motoring along pretty well as a walker. Well really she is still puttering along as a walker but is taking 10-12 steps at times now before toppling over. She still uses her crawling as the speedier method of travel.
She has apparently been learning other things here in Georgia, such as how to jabber with a southern accent. It is the funniest thing to hear but she has just started saying “bay-a, bay-a, bay-a”. It sounds like she is trying to say “baby” with a drawl. I guess she’s been crawling off to Paula Dean’s place at lunch time.
Savannah is also working her way to being an accomplished four-note piano player. She used to just pick up the piano and drop it or sometimes beat on it with her hands. Lately though her skills have become more refined as she hits each note, one by one, with her right thumb. She is slowly working on her scales.
This Saturday we returned to Tybee Island to enjoy the afternoon at the beach. We were hoping to catch the remnants of another SCAD event, the Sand Arts Festival, but the wind and water had already worn down the sand castles and sculptures from the day before. It was a beautiful day however and we took the opportunity to introduce Savannah to the water a little more. It didn’t go quite as planned. She did look very cute in her baby bathing suit but once it came time to hit the water she was a little reluctant. I guess the ocean isn’t quite as warm or as calm as her bath water.
Anyway, when her feet hit the wet sand she hesitated. When a wave washed up her around her ankles she shrieked! From that point on she held on to our arms pretty tight when we were near the water. We did attempt to put her down again but as the water approached her toes she started back peddling (a motion she had yet to try). Suffice it to say that we will have to work up to crashing the waves together.
A little unsure...
We did enjoy seeing a new part of Tybee Island this trip. We went to the North Beach area near the Tybee lighthouse and old fort. If you ask me the fort needs to be brought back as the pirates are getting out of control on the beach.
Tybee lighthouse and Fort Screven over the dunes.
