Reminiscing

Summer vacation is officially in motion.  While on the way to Indiana for CuzFest 2013 we made side trips to Louisville and Indianapolis to do a little reminiscing of the pre-marriage and pre-children days.

When Sue and I met in Louisville we spent a lot of time at the beautiful and fun Waterfront Park along the Ohio River in downtown.  The park is a huge expanse of well landscaped lawns and paths and has some great areas to relax, picnic, and play.  We've stopped before to let the kids play on some of the numerous playgrounds but this time are goal was the huge sprayground that the park has. The weather was perfect for it.

 Everyone loved the paddlewheel playground.

We did do a quick drive by the Belle of Louisville ("Daddy's boat") and saw it steaming up river as we crossed the bridge to Indiana.

Ellie climbed up the "mountain" all by herself.  At the top she did a head stand, turned a 180 - while upside down - and promptly began rolling back down the mountain. Daddy was there to catch her. Once the water turned out at the sprayground everyone ran for the water and we spent the rest of our time before lunch at the water.

Isaiah got tired and cold from the water so he wanted to go for a walk on the bridge.  After year's of planning the Big 4 Bridge (former railroad bridge) was modified with a walking and bike trail that will soon connect to a ramp on the Indiana side of the river in Jeffersonville.  Lots of people were heading up the big ramp to cross over the bridge and back.

Isaiah wanted to cross the whole river but we had to get back to the girls for lunch, plus it was starting to get a little cloudy.  For lunch we headed to Bearno's by the Bridge, a local pizza place which was the first place Sue and I ate together.  We weren't dating at the time and I doubt either of us expected we would be back in 11 years with 3 kids. While we were showing the kids the sights, Isaiah wondered where he was when we were going to all this places in Louisville.  Apparently, he didn't realized time existed before his birth.

We picked up the pizzas and headed across the river to the Indiana side.  There is a great little park n Clarksville that has a wonderful view of the Louisville skyline. We had a pizza picnic lunch and enjoyed the view.

After lunch we headed to the "Widow's Walk" ice cream shop across the street from the park.  We spent a lot of time here during our time in Louisville.

The second floor balcony is where I said "will you" and Sue said, "I do".

After visiting Louisville we headed up the road for a final stop before CuzFest.  We spent some good time with great friends, Joe and Rachel, while all the kids had a very busy time together.

The youngest girls loved smiling for the camera.

The oldest siblings were too cool and too fast for the camera.

Isaiah just played non-stop with any ball he could find.

All in all we had a great weekend traveling and remember all the amazing places God has brought us to and all the great friends he has allowed us to know.
