Father’s Day

So we had a great Father’s Day around here, we spent the weekend showing Tom that we love and appreciate him. We went to a state historic site called Wormsloe. It reminds me a lot of the drive that they show so much in Forest Gump but as far as we know it isn’t where the filmed it. We had a lot of fun exploring and seeing the marsh and the beautiful oak trees.



Savannah didn’t quite understand that she had to give daddy his Father’s Day card she just thought that she could play with it and Tom would get the message by watching her play. Tom spent a lot of quality daddy and daughter time with Savannah that weekend and he also ate a lot of yummy food that he likes a lot including good pork barbeque!



Church

So as we have both been in Savannah for about 2 months now we are really into the church hunt full steam. We have been to quite a few different churches, some in non-church buildings such as a YMCA or a banquet hall, and some that are really small and some that have thousands of people attend weekly on multiple campuses. We have discovered this process to be much more laborious than it was in Richmond, Eternity was the first church we attended and loved and never left! We really feel like God is helping us to see different aspects of what life and ministry are like here. We desire a church with diversity, one that is focused on teaching and spreading God’s word and love and one that is Christ focused. We would also like a church that we can take kids from the neighborhood to and they will feel comfortable and develop a lifelong relationship with Christ. Each church we have attended has pluses and minuses for us. We know that God wants to use us to transform the city and the broken with the love of Christ and we are patiently waiting for His direction. Savannah makes it a little difficult also as she can’t usually sit still for longer than a few mintues even with toys, cherrios and other distractions.

We have also discovered the past two Sundays that Savannah really enjoys going to the mall after church (the two churches we attended weren’t far from the mall) because there is a kid friendly soft toy play area. She absolutely loves it and loves seeing the other children and parents there as well. At one point she just walked around to all of the adults sitting on the outer edge smiling at everyone. Both times we have gone she is the youngest one there but she doesn’t mind. It does mean that she gets pushed around and over somewhat frequently. Tom’s comment was “I don’t have any problem hitting a 3 year old” (kidding of course) but there was this one little boy that was pushing her over on purpose so Daddy the protector came out as it should!



We also went to the Latina festival down on river street on Saturday afternoon. It rained at the beginning of the event but cleared up and it was a lot of fun. There was great music, art and food as well as dancing by several groups. It was great to see the diversity in the Latin culture and Savannah enjoyed dancing to the music and riding on Daddy’s shoulders.

We have also resumed our trips downtown on Friday nights. Dixie most nights actually gets more comments than Savannah! The tourist just love seeing a cute dog, a cute baby and we get stopped very frequently. Savannah decided that she wanted to walk on her own for part of river walk, always nice to hold daddy’s hand though!


We also discovered the state farmers market on Saturday morning that is in Garden City which isn’t too far and we got some great fresh fruits and veggies! I have a goal of having an organic garden one day and I love to see the different produce out there to enjoy!

Savannah officially moved to the “big girl” car seat this week and she LOVES it! She just laughed and smiled the whole time we were in the car. She loves to look out the front window and look at Tom and I in the front seat. It is so crazy to me how fast she has grown up. We have discovered two more new teeth this week on the top and even had a few very toddler moments when we haven’t gotten out way. I am just starting to feel like I have gotten the baby thing down and now she is just about a toddler.


Tom’s job is still going well and Savannah and I are having a great time at home. I am trying to learn to be a better cook which is taking some time. Tom and Savannah are being patient with me though! Savannah actually most days would prefer food from a jar than what I make but I keep on making it and hope that she will one day enjoy it. Determination is something that I am learning from Savannah, if you don’t get it at first, and even if you fall, hit your face, get a bruise and cry a little, just get up and try it again because before long you will be spinning in your room dancing to the music you make from your toy piano. She is such a smart baby! My sister and her husband are coming down this weekend so we are exicted to spend some time with them and see her cute belly (she is due Sept. 8). So we should have some more pictures for you then. For now here are some other random pics we have taken lately!
