Weekend of free fun

So we are always on the lookout for free things to do and especially free things to do in beautiful Savannah so we lucked up this weekend! We went to the park up the street from us on Saturday morning to play for a few hours and saw a sign on the sandgnats stadium that SCAD's baseball team (yes they have a baseball team) had a game at 1pm and it was free. After coming home for lunch and a short nap for Savannah we walked up to the game. Savannah had more fun playing on the stairs and benches then watching the game but we stayed for a little while and saw part of the 1st game and a little bit of the 2nd game (doubleheader). We then came home and just relaxed while Tom and Dixie worked a little more on the backyard. It is a mess and we are hoping to plant some grass this spring so that Savannah can play back there. Tom at one point came in and said he dug up half of a rocking horse! There are a lot of random and harmful things back there but Tom is working hard on it.

Sunday was church which was great as always. Our pastor is preaching through Judges and it is amazing to see how the cycle of falling away from God (sin), complancy and a need for a savior is repeated so many times in our history and how God sends a redeemer to save His people. God really does desire intimacy with us and sacrificed his son Jesus to bring us back to him. How can we live our lives and ignore that knowing that God loves us so much!

After church we headed out to our day of free adventure (ok we paid $1.50 for parking at Tybee they are really good at catching people for not paying for parking so it is a must all year and any day of the week.) This was museum Sunday for the coastal area so all museums, state parks, national parks and anyone else that chose to participate were free! What a fabulous idea! First we headed to Oatland Island Wildlife Refugee and had a great time. We saw all sort of animals (pictures follow) such as bison, wolves, armadillos, bald eagles, deer, cows, sheep, rabbits, pigs, alligators and many others. Savannah loves animals and is pretty good at names most of what we saw and she knows the sounds that about half of them make. By far she was most excited by the cow and the other farm animals. Although she and Tom were both pretty enthralled by the armadillos (I do not know how to spell that so this is my best effort). She also liked sitting in the fake bald eagle nest, they can weigh up to 2 tons, how crazy!

After lots of fun at Oatland Island, we headed out to Tybee to check out the lighthouse and make our trek to the top. It does say on the brochure that you shouldn't climb the lighthouse if you are pregnant but I did pretty good. Tom carried Savannah all the way up and down and she started to get restless on the way up. What a great daddy!

Off to the beach after the lighthouse, it was really just across the street! Savannah liked running in the sand then she saw the ocean. She started yelling ocean, ocean and ran straight for it. Tom took off his shoes and went after her into the water. She didn't seem too fazed by the freezing water but Tom sure thought it was cold. She wanted to go all the way in and would have if we had let her. She loves the ocean.

Chasing the sea gulls was pretty fun as well.

She also discovered that shells are pretty fun to pick up. They added a lot of new sand to the beach this off season so there were lots of fun shells to look at and play with. Next time we will have to bring her bucket!
